The Philly Contraption Contest is back! This is a competition of Rube Goldberg machines.

Students from the greater Philadelphia region will compete to build the best Rube Goldberg machine that accomplishes the assigned task, which is: Play a musical instrument.

The 2019 Philly Contraption Contest will take place at Overbrook Presbyterian Church, 6376 City Avenue, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, March 30th. Teams arrive and begin setup at 8 a.m. Judging begins at 10 a.m. The public is invited to view the Rube Goldberg machines at the Philly Contraption Contest from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The Philly Contraption Contest was formerly known as the Philadelphia Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. It was founded by Victor Fiorillo and is program of CultureTrust Greater Philadelphia, a 501c3 independent charitable trust supporting arts and heritage programs of diverse disciplines and cultural traditions.

The Philly Contraption Contest is a volunteer-driven, non-profit initiative. This event is not affiliated with Rube Goldberg Incorporated or the national or regional Rube Goldberg Machine Contest.

  1. This is awesome! My 4th graders at Waldron Mercy Academy did a Rube Goldberg Project for me. Their goal was to incorporate at least three different simple machines, using Lego WeDO, K’Nex, found objects, and if they wanted to, Scratch, to accomplish something. They had three 1 hour class periods to complete their task.
